For Our Senior Citizens

ARE YOU OK?

Program

This program is administered by the Rufty-Holmes Senior Center, 1120 Martin Luther King Jr S.,  Salisbury, NC 28144

Contact:   (704) 216-7714  information@ruftyholmes.org

The purpose of this service is to make a daily safety check on any individual of any age who wants to be enrolled in the program.

Senior Services will explain how the calling system works and take applications.  The 911 Telecommunications Center makes the calls seven days per week at the same time each day.

If the phone is not answered after three attempts, the emergency contact is called. If there is no explanation for the unanswered phone or if the contact cannot be located, law enforcement officers are notified to go to the home.

Many times the subscriber is found to be O.K., and just missed hearing or receiving the phone call. However, if the officer sees cause to be concerned, they may use the key and enter the home to look for the subscriber. On some occasions, an ambulance may be called to respond to an emergency.

When a subscriber knows they will not be home to answer the daily call, there are provisions to notify the Senior Services department or the 911 communications center to cancel or suspend the daily calls.
